Ignore the Complaining and Do it Anyway

I warned my family before leaving for our trip that we would be going on a hike and everyone would be required to attend.  Let’s just say that some people in my family are less than enthusiastic about hiking.  My sister and I had a hike in mind, but as soon as the kids heard about it, the complaining started.  My sister and I are nice people, so we tried to make adjustments and come up with a different hike that everyone might be more agreeable to.  That wasn’t the smartest decision.  Between both of us, there are 10 kids, so the odds of pleasing all of them are nearly impossible! We finally decided on which hike to go on and made everyone load into the car.  They were pretty good about not complaining, but I don’t think anyone was actually happy to be going.

We got out of the car and headed up the trail.  It was the perfect temperature, the trail wasn’t too crowded, and all of the kids were happy.  We spent a couple hours hiking, exploring, taking beautiful pictures, and enjoying each other and the beautiful world we live in.

I used to feel such pressure to choose family activities that everyone wanted to do, and then I realized that such a feat was probably impossible.  There will always be someone in the family that isn’t eager to do something.  However, if we get started, there’s a very high probability that everyone will enjoy themselves once we do.
