Last week, I woke up early in the morning 2 days in a row. I laid in bed and my mind was full of thoughts about a certain individual. I knew that the Lord wanted me to reach out to them with a loving letter and information that could be helpful for them in their trials.
I don’t know about you, but I always get real uncomfortable when that happens. How do you go about that in a way that doesn’t sound like, “Hey you, while I was over here being my perfect self, I noticed that you’ve got a real big problem with this thing. I don’t have any experience with that thing, but I know exactly what you need to do to fix it. Because in case you forgot, I’m perfect. And I know everything.”
The only way you can possibly not come across like that is if God is giving you the words himself. So I spent a few days, praying and pleading that God would give me the words. It’s amazing to think that while I have absolutely no experience with the trial this individual is dealing with, no empathy or understanding, no wisdom or advice about overcoming it, the Savior does. The Savior knows exactly what this person is going through. The Savior knows exactly what words they need to hear. The Savior knows exactly how to comfort them. The Savior knows exactly how to guide them. The Savior knows exactly how to help them.
And all He needs from me is to remember that, to remember that it really has nothing to do with me. That this is between God and this individual who He loves even more than I do, and I’m just an instrument through which He can communicate.
“I am a little pencil in God’s hands. He does the thinking. He does the writing. He does everything and sometimes it is really hard because it is a broken pencil and He has to sharpen it a little more.” ~Mother Teresa
